From 2012 to 2013, Fiala served as Minister of Education, Youth and Sports in the government of Petr Nečas; he managed to stabilize the resort and quickly won the public’s trust with his conceptual and persuasive work. In October 2013, he became leader of the South Moravian ODS candidate list as a non-party member and was elected an MP. The same year, Fiala joined the ODS party and was elected its chairman. Between 2017 and 2021, he held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. In late 2020, he became the national leader of the newly created electoral coalition SPOLU. His scholarly research focuses on comparative political science, European politics, and conservative politics.
