Peter Šťastný
Peter served as Member of the European Parliament for Slovakia and a member of the European People’s Party in 2004-2014. In the 2004 European Parliament elections Peter was the leader of the SDKÚ candidate list. For the following 5 years, he was the leader of Slovak delegation of the EPP group. He was re-elected to the European Parliament in June 2009. Within the framework of the European Parliament, he was the Vice-Chair of the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, member of the Committee on International Trade, the Subcommittee on Security and Defense and the Delegation to the Cariforum — EU Parliamentary Committee. He was also the substitute member of the Committee on Budgets, Special Committee on Organised Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering and the Delegation for Relations with the United States. He is a signatory of the Prague Declaration on European Conscience and Communism. For fifteen years (1980-1995), Peter was a professional ice hockey player in the North American National Hockey League (NHL). From 1995 to 2002 he was working as a special assignment consultant for NHL club the St Louis Blues. He is triple world champion and the member of the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame and IIHF Hall of Fame. From 2002 to 2006 he was the General Manager of the Slovak national ice hockey team. He is also author of best sellling book Hockey on Two Continents.
