We have the pleasure of inviting you to a discussion with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky.

Jan Schakowsky was elected to represent Illinois’ 9th Congressional District in 1998. Now in her ninth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, she serves in the House Democratic leadership as a Chief Deputy Whip. Among her long-term policy priorities are quality health care, social security, women’s issues, and immigration reform. She is also active in the fields of national security and foreign affairs.
Jan is a strong leader from Illinois, a state that has a significant number of Czech-American constituents; it is also the home state of President Obama. Jan Schakowsky has a strong interest in the Czech Republic, as well as in Central Europe as a whole. She serves as co-chair of the Czech Caucus in the House of Representatives.
You will have the opportunity to discuss a number of current issues with the Congresswoman, including the recent events in Turkey, Brexit and the future of the EU, the refugee crisis, and energy and climate change.
The debate will be chaired by the Vice-President of Aspen Institute Prague Michael Žantovský, will be held in English and under the Chatham House Rule.
The event is organized in cooperation with the Václav Havel Library and the American Friends of the Czech Republic (AFoCR).
