Strategies for Successful Cities:
A Dutch Perspective; Prague

An expert meeting and a public debate from the series Strategies for Successful Cities: A Dutch Perspective took place on April 17, 2018 in Prague.

Only few days after the Metropolitan Plan for Prague has been adopted and is open for discussion with the public, Aspen Institute CE and Embassy of the Netherlands have invited Zef Hemel to Prague. Zef Hemel shared the Dutch experience on bottom up approach in urban planning, and on the importance and possible ways of including public while setting strategic goals of a city. He furthermore focused on the role of the politicians, being not only decision takers, but also moderators in this important and uneasy process, stressing the art of listening to the others, cooperation with different stakeholders and sharing the dreams and visions.

Zef Hemel’s presentation was followed with a public debate with Tomáš Lapáček, Strategy and Policy Section Director, Prague Institute of Planning and Development and Zdeněk Tomíček, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, chaired by Yvette Vašourková from MOBA, a multi-purpose architecture platform. The discussion focused on actual situation and needs of Prague and its citizens.
