Mikuláš Dzurinda has been the President of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies since 2013. Over the years 1998–2006, he held the post of Prime Minister of Slovakia, having had, however, held various positions in the government since first entering politics in 1990. Once he became Prime Minister, Dzurinda introduced far-reaching reforms which enabled Slovakia to begin the process of joining the EU and NATO, which was completed in 2004. Mikuláš Dzurinda is a founding member of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union – Democratic Party (SDKÚ-DS) and was chair of the party from 2000 to 2012. In 2007, he was awarded the F.A. Hayek International Prize for reforms and fighting against bureaucracy. Apart from his rich political career, Mikuláš Dzurinda is also a marathon runner.
