György Schöpflin is a Hungarian politician for Fidesz, and since 2004 also a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), where he is affiliated with the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats). He serves as a full member on the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs (where he is EPP Coordinator) and is a substitute member of the Foreign Affairs and Cultural Committees. In addition, he takes part in the Reconciliation of European Histories Group of the European Parliament. Formerly, Dr. Schöpflin was Jean Monnet Professor of Politics at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London and has published extensively on questions of nationhood, identity and political power.
