Jan Jireš
Jan Jireš has been the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic, responsible for defense policy and planning, since July 2022. Between 2017 and 2022, he held the position of Head of the Defense Section at the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to NATO in Brussels. He also served as Defense Policy Director at the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic, and was a lecturer of international relations and security studies at
Charles University in Prague. Between 2009 and 2013, Jan worked as Director of the Prague Centre for Transatlantic Relations at the CEVRO Institute. As a Fulbright Visiting Scholar, he spent a year at the Center for Transatlantic Relations of Johns Hopkins University, Washington, and worked with a number of US and European research institutes and think-tanks on various security policy-related projects (such as the Center for European Policy Analysis, Washington, Centre for European Security Studies, Groningen, Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance, Central European Park for Innovative Technologies in Bratislava, Polish Institute of International Affairs) in Warsaw, Bundeswehr Institute of Social Sciences, Strausberg, Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI), or the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava). Jan holds a Ph.D. from Charles University.
