Jan Mencwel is an activist, writer, and cultural animator mostly known for his role as a co-founder and current leader of Miasto Jest Nasze, a leading Polish activists group engaged in urban struggles around ecology, equality, and accessibility of cities. He was born and raised in Warsaw, and he studied at the Warsaw University (cultural studies). Apart from his activism, he also published many articles and a book. He also participated in various activists campaigns that focused on domestic and international issues, notably “Chlebem i Solą,” which attempted to help migrants and Inicjatywa Wolna Białoruś in defense of civil society in Belarus.
