Jolana is since 01 November 2014 a Member of Cabinet of the EU Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström. She works as a policy assistant responsible for a variety of portfolio areas, including transparency, access to documents, relations with national parliaments, trade and security issues (e.g. trade in dual use goods), and relations with countries in North Africa, Euromed  and South Asia. Jolana is a Czech citizen, born in Prague to a Czech mother and a Zairian father (now Democratic Republic of the Congo). She has a Ph.D. in political science from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She also holds a post-master degree, a D.E.A. in political science, from the Universities of Lausanne and Geneva in Switzerland, and a dual Master’s degree in French linguistics and politology from Charles University in Prague. Prior to joining the European Commission, Jolana worked as a policy adviser in the European Parliament in the years 2004-2007 and 2009-2014. Her current area of specialization is international trade combined with a broad interest in EU public policies.
