Marek Janiga
Marek Janiga is a humanitarian worker and a student senator at Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Law.
After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he organized fundraising efforts during his studies in the US, which he expanded after returning to Slovakia as the founder and director of the NGO United for Help. Marek spent three months at the frontlines, coordinating humanitarian projects, and creating a network of NGOs working under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy in Ukraine.
He has coordinated other projects, including an educational program for the Yazidi refugees in Iraqi Kurdistan, humanitarian assistance to refugees fleeing the Nagorno Karabakh region, or providing shelter for 50+ Syrian refugees in Slovakia. He worked on a SlovakAid project of wells construction in Iraq with Caritas Slovakia.
After the proposal of controversial criminal code reform, he tried to initiate an academic discussion at the Faculty of Law, for which he was mocked by the Slovak Prime Minister on Facebook. Marek refused to join the political protests and after the rejection from the Faculty of Law, he, together with his colleagues, organized a plural expert discussion at the Faculty of Philosophy.
