Tomáš was appointed bishop of Pilsen in February 2016 by Pope Francis and ordained two months later. Previously, he served as the Secretary General of the Czech Bishop Conference. Tomáš graduated from the Prague Archbishopric Seminary and was ordained priest in Hradec Králové by Bishop Karel Otčenášek in 1993. His first place of work was Kutná Hora between 1993 and 1996, where he served as chaplain and as the spiritual of St. Ursula Church Grammar School. He then joined the Army of the Czech Republic as its first chaplain and worked there between 1996 and 2006, first in the IFOR units in Bosnia and Herzegovina, then as the army chaplain of the Rapid Deployment Brigade in Havlíčkův Brod and later as the chief chaplain of the Czech Army. Since 2006, he has been also active as the Defence Minister’s advisor. He went on a study stay to the Lateran University in Rome in 2007-2008 and earned a doctorate in theology at the Theological Faculty of Charles University, Prague. Msgr. Holub is also active in Christian youth leadership, he lectures under the Czech Christian Academy and Czech Charismatic Renewal.
