Placemaking: Multisource financing
WHEN: February 26, 10:00-12.00
WHERE: Galczynskiego 5, Warsaw
Organizers: Aspen Institute Prague, Res Publica Foundation
In creative placemaking, partners from public, private, non-profit, and community sectors shape the physical and social character of urban areas around arts and cultural activities. The concept is relatively new but it describes processes already taking place in many cities, however often with little support from municipalities, developers and communities. The arts and culture can be drivers of urban economic and social change, particularly to cities undergoing de-industrialization that leaves many vacant spaces, ideal for cultural and creative industries. Such projects, often organized on a bottom-up principle, do not have just one source of financing.
This defines their mode of operation, planning and budgeting. During the meeting, the following questions shall be discussed with the aim to help activists in addressing fundraising problems:
- Organizational/Project Sustainability
- Short-termism vs Long-termism of Cultural Projects
- Creating Community Ownership
- Crowd-instruments
- Combining Public and Private Financial Instruments
Speakers:
- Michal Hladký (Creative Industry Košice)
- Wojciech Przybylski (Res Publica Foundation, Warsaw)
- Maria Staszkiewicz (Aspen Institute Prague)
- Anna Wojcik (Res Publica Nowa, Warsaw)
The event is organized as a part of the project titled Creative Visegrad, supported by the International Visegrad Fund.
